Cazzola Earns Second Place At Prestigious Notre Dame Invite

Christy Cazzola (Sr. • Kaukauna) finished second among 120 runners at the 57th Annual Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational on Friday (Sept. 28) in South Bend, Ind.

UW-Oshkosh placed 11th in the elite field with 252 points. The top team was Texas Christian University with 62. Notre Dame took second with 86, followed by Calvin College (Mich.) in third at 130, Eastern Michigan University in fourth at 134 and Texas-Arlington in fifth at 168.

TCU's Agnes Kemboi clocked a 16:53 for the individual victory. Cazzola covered the 5,000 meters in a career-best time of 17:11. It was the third impressive showing for Cazzola, who finished fourth at this meet during 2010 and seventh last year.

The top-five also featured Victoria Voronko (Eastern Mich.) at 17:32, Ashley Eckhoff (TCU) at 17:46 and Nicole Michmerhuizen (Calvin) at 17:49.

McKenzie Kelly (Sr. • New Richmond) was the next-best Titan, using 18:38 for 43rd place. A pair of UW-Oshkosh freshmen also performed well. Danica Harrison (Arpin) finished in 19:09 for 59th, while Taylor Bauer (Fort Atkinson) recorded a 19:47 for 84th.

UW-Oshkosh's other runner to score was Allie DeBaker (Jr. • Green Bay), who earned 66th in 19:16. Sonny Jenkins (So. • Manton, Mich.) added an 88th-place showing in 19:57, to go along with Morgan Engelhart's (Jr. • Oregon) 89th-place score of 19:59.

The Titans run at the Gene Davis Invitational on Oct. 6 in Appleton.
