Titans Take Eighth At Midwest Open

Taylor Bauer (Fr. • Fort Atkinson) was UW-Oshkosh's top individual finisher as the Titans opened their 2012 season at the Midwest Women's Cross Country Open on Saturday (Sept. 8) in Somers.

Northern Michigan Unversity scored 47 points to easily capture the team title. Host UW-Parkside finished second in the 17-team meet with 77 points, while UW-Green Bay placed third with 78, Bellarmine University (Ky.) fourth with 93 and Illinois Tech fifth with 121.

UW-Oshkosh, competing without a couple of its top runners, ranked eighth with 235 points. Also listed in the top 10 were sixth-place UW-Milwaukee with 156 points, seventh-place St. Joseph College (Ind.) with 204, ninth-place Michigan Tech with 273 and 10th-place Elmhurst College (Ill.) with 289.

Bauer completed the 5,000-meter race in a time of 20:12 to earn the 38th position. The Titans also had McKenzie Kelly (Sr. • New Richmond) place 46th in 20:21, Danica Harrison (Fr. • Arpin) 52nd in 20:30, Allie DeBaker (Jr. • Green Bay) 61st in 20:46 and Morgan Engelhart (Jr. • Oregon) 68th in 20:55.

UW-Oshkosh's list of top-10 runners concluded with Kendal Wormuth (Fr. • Wittenberg) finishing 69th in 20:58, Macy Egan (Fr. • New London) 76th in 21:12, Rhea Fiorita (Fr. • Burington) 82nd in 21:25, Alexa Nutter (Jr. • Fennimore) 85th in 21:34 and Alexandria Mahoney (So. • Spring Green) 88th in 21:38.

Angela Musk of Bellarmine University took the individual title with a time of 17:49. Second place went to UW-Parkside's Jessica Watychowicz in 17:57 and third to UW-Green Bay's Sarah Mauel in 18:24. Abby Jahn of Illinois Tech and Mandy Dye of Northern Michigan University finished fourth and fifth with times of 18:50 and 18:57, respectively. The meet featured 176 runners.

UW-Oshkosh runs at UW-Whitewater's Warhawk Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 15).
