Cazzola Seventh, Titans 15th At Notre Dame Invitational

Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) posted her ninth consecutive top-10 finish to lead the UW-Oshkosh women’s cross country team at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday (Sept. 30) in South Bend, Ind. The Titans placed 15th in the 20-team competition.

NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University (Mich.) won the event with 40 points, as Northwestern University (Ill.) came in second at 56 and Central Michigan University third with 61. Indiana State University totaled 173 and Bradley University (Ill.) 219 to round out the top five. UW-Oshkosh compiled 406 points at the 5,000-meter race. Grand Valley State is currently ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II.

Northwestern’s Audrey Huth navigated the course in 17:29 to take individual honors. Grand Valley earned the second, fourth and fifth positions with showings by Monica Kinney (17:45), Rebecca Winchester (17:50) and Rachel Clark (17:56). Raeanne Lohner (Central Mich.) placed third at 17:50, while the Titans’ Cazzola listed seventh at 18:02.

Other runners scoring for UW-Oshkosh were McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond) in 80th (19:27), Morgan Engelhart (So. • Oregon) in 110th (20:02), Allie DeBaker (So. • Green Bay) in 112th at 20:05 and Kristin Stockheimer (Jr. • West Salem) in 127th at 20:37. The final UW-Oshkosh finishers were Tori Johnson (Jr. • Valders) and Lauren Reigel (So. • Greenville), who placed 128th and 146th with times of 20:37 and 21:23, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh will run again at the Gene Davis Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 8) in Appleton.
