Titans Place Fifth In Season-Opening Meet

Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) ran to a second-place finish as the UW-Oshkosh women's cross country team took fifth at the Midwest Open on Saturday (Sept. 10) in Somers.

UW-Parkside topped the team standings with 37 points, followed by UW-Milwaukee in second (70) and UW-Green Bay in third (101). Illinois Tech. came in fourth place at 106, while the Titans totaled 114 points to finish fifth among the 14 squads.

A total of 89 runners challenged the 5,000-meter course, with Hope Christie (UW-Parkside) posting a winning time of 17:54. Cazzola was next in line at 18:18, as Lauren Mauel (UW-Green Bay) placed third at 18:51, Markelle Turk (UW-Parkside) fourth at 19:02 and Abby Jahn (Illinois Tech) fifth at 19:08.

UW-Oshkosh had its other four runners score in a tightly-grouped bunch. McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond) marked a time of 20:42 for 24th place, while Morgan Engelhart (So. • Oregon) came in 29th at 20:45, Allie DeBaker (So. • Green Bay) 30th at 20:46 and Tori Johnson (Jr .• Valders) 37th at 21:11.

The Titans' other top-45 standings came from Kate Brooks (Fr. • Winneconne), who used 21:21 for 41st place, and Natalie Wilke (Fr. • Waunakee), who earned 44th place at 21:26.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Whitewater for Saturday’s (Sept. 17) Warhawk Invitational.
