Cazzola Runs To Second-Place Finish At NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh's Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) finished five seconds behind as she placed second at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Women’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Nov. 19) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

Cazzola posted a 6,000-meter time of 20:57, while Chiara Del Piccolo of Williams College (Mass.) won the national title at 20:52. It was the second consecutive All-America performance for Cazzola, who placed fourth last year. The top 35 finishers at the meet received All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Annie Lydens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.) came in third place with a time of 21:02, while Erica Jackey of Washington University (Mo.) captured fourth in 21:04. Margo Cramer of Middlebury College (Vt.) wrapped up the top-five finishes with her time of 21:05.

Addie Tousley of Middlebury College earned the sixth position in 21:07, as Linda Keller of the University of Minnesota-Morris followed in seventh at 21:07 and Keri Lambert of Amherst College (Mass.) eighth in 21:12. The top-10 listings concluded with Alison Steinbrunner of Ohio Northern University taking ninth in 21:12 and Alana Enabnit of Wartburg College (Iowa) grabbing 10th in 21:13. A total of 277 runners finished the race.

Washington University captured its first NCAA Division III title with 70 points, while defending champion Middlebury College placed second with 111. Williams College took third with 153 points, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) fourth with 223 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology fifth with 276 in the 32-team meet.
