Cazzola Named To CoSIDA Academic All-America Team
After winning three national titles on the track and performing well in the classroom, Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) was named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Cazzola was a third-team selection on the Capital One NCAA
Division III Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field Academic
All-America Team. A total of 45 student-athletes were voted onto
the three squads. Majoring in special education, Cazzola owns a
cumulative grade-point average of 3.31.
At the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship
(March 9-10), Cazzola won two individual crowns. In a span of 90
minutes, she captured both the 800-meter run (2:13.40) and the mile
run (4:51.99). UW-Oshkosh ended up second in the team
standings.
Cazzola received Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year during
both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Outdoors, she won the
800-meter and 1,500-meter races at the WIAC Championship. Cazzola
then defended her 1,500-meter title at the NCAA Division III meet
(May 24-26) with a time of 4:25.67. Breaking a school record,
Cazzola also clocked a 16:32.26 in the 5,000-meter run at the
UW-Platteville Invitational.
During the fall, Cazzola won individual titles at both the WIAC
Cross Country Championship and the NCAA Division III Midwest
Regional. She earned second place at the national event (Nov. 19)
with a time of 20:57.
Washington University’s (Mo.) Elizabeth Phillips received the
Academic All-America of the Year award. The other 14 women gaining
first-team honors were Lauren Alpert (Ill. Wesleyan), Emily Canales
(Redlands), Simone Childs-Walker (Carleton), Emma Dewart (Ithaca),
Jaela Dinsmore (Willamette), Elizabeth Evans (Rose-Hulman), Keelie
Finnel (Coe), Sarah Hoffmann (Wartburg), Erin Hollinger (Case
Western Reserve), Erica Jackey (Washington Univ.), Lauren Kuntz
(Mass. Institute of Tech.), Annie Lydens (Pomona-Pitzer), Mary
Mahoney (Mount Union) and Emily Schudrowitz (St. Norbert).
