Cazzola Selected To CoSIDA All-District Academic Team
UW-Oshkosh’s Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) has
been voted to the NCAA Division III Academic All-District Team for
her outstanding performance this school year. Capital One sponsors
the all-district team, which is selected by the College Sports
Information Directors of America.
Cazzola was one of 11 women picked for the District 6 First Team
from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. She holds a 3.31 cumulative
grade-point average while majoring in special education.
The all-district honor recognizes academic achievements and
athletic success in cross country and track & field. During the
fall, Cazzola won individual titles at both the WIAC Cross Country
Championship and the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. She then
placed second at the national meet (Nov. 19) with a time of
20:57.
Cazzola won two national championships at the NCAA Division III
Indoor Track & Field event from March 9-10. In a span of 90
minutes, she captured the 800-meter run (2:13.40) and the mile run
(4:51.99) to help UW-Oshkosh place second in the team
standings.
Cazzola received Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year during
both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Outdoors, she won the
800-meter and 1,500-meter races at the WIAC Championship. Cazzola
then defended her 1,500-meter title at the NCAA Division III
Championship (May 24-26) with a time of 4:25.67. Setting a school
record, Cazzola also clocked a 16:32.26 in the 5,000-meter run at
the UW-Platteville Invitational.
The remaining members of the Academic All-District 6 Team were
Brooke Beskau (Gustavus Adolphus), Simone Childs-Walker (Carleton),
Emily Dieringer (MSOE), Kaari Jensen (Concordia-Moorhead), Nicole
Michermhuizen (Calvin), Emily Schudrowitz (St. Norbert), Alison
Smyth (Carleton), Kelsey Timm (St. Norbert), Ann Tank
(UW-Platteville) and Ally Voss (Gustavus Adolphus).
