Cazzola, Titans Claim Academic Awards
UW-Oshkosh received the team academic award and Christy Cazzola
(Jr. • Kaukauna) an individual accolade from the United States
Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
(USTFCCCA).
The USTFCCCA awarded All-Academic status to 187 cross country
teams in the NCAA Division III. In order to be recognized, a team
must have a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or higher. UW-Oshkosh finished
the fall semester with a 3.14 team GPA.
Cazzola, who finished second at the national championship, gained
mention on the All-Academic Team. The secondary education major
owns a cumulative GPA of 3.28. Cazzola was also recognized on the
All-Academic squad last year after placing fourth at the NCAA
Division III Championship.
Chiara Del Piccolo of Williams College (Mass.) was named the
Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Del Piccolo finished with a time of
20:52 to defeat Cazzola by five seconds at the national
championship on Nov. 19 in Winneconne.
An individual must compile a GPA of 3.30 and finish in the top 35
at the NCAA Regional Championships to make the All-Academic Team.
The WIAC placed 12 women on the list, including four from UW-Eau
Claire. A total of 183 student-athletes earned the honor.
National champion Washington University (Mo.) earned Scholar Team
of the Year. The Bears compiled a team GPA of 3.70 through the fall
semester.
