Cazzola Repeats As WIAC Runner Of The Week
UW-Oshkosh's Christy Cazzola
(So. • Kaukauna) was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
following her fourth-place finish in the Gold Division of the Notre
Dame Invitational held Oct. 1 in South Bend, Ind. The award was for
meets held Sept. 27-Oct. 3.
Cazzola, who was also selected as the league's Runner of the Week
for the period of Sept. 6-12, was the first NCAA Division III
runner to cross the finish line at the Notre Dame Invitational. Her
performance helped the Titans score 115 point and finish third in
the team standings.
Cazzola competed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 17:54. NCAA
Division I West Virginia University owned the top two runners as
Katie Gillespie finished first in 17:24 and Sarah-Anne Brault
second in 17:30. Alison Bishel of NCAA Division I Ball State
University (Ind.) placed third among the 161 runners in
17:48.
NCAA Division I Oakland University (Mich.) won the 19-team meet with 91 points, while West Virginia University finished second with 104. NCAA Division I Indiana State University fourth with 168 points.
Peter Johnston of UW-Stout was named the WIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
