Cazzola Selected WIAC Athlete Of The Year
Top-four finishes in every race earned
Christy Cazzola (So. • Kaukauna) the 2010 WIAC Women’s
Cross Country Athlete of the Year award. She collected the award
based on voting conducted by league coaches.
Cazzola capped her outstanding campaign by taking fourth place
with a time of 21:18 at the NCAA Division III Championship held
Nov. 20 in Waverly, Iowa. She also came in the fourth position at
the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional, posting a 6,000-meter time
of 21:34.
Her best effort of the season came against the league’s
elite. Cazzola clocked a time of 22:15 to finish first among 102
runners at the WIAC Championship. She opened the season with a
second-place showing in 18:07 at the 5,000-meter Midwest Open. The
Titans captured the team title at both the Midwest Open and the Roy
Griak Invitational, where Cazzola placed third with a time of
22:19.
In 2008, Cazzola took fourth place at the WIAC Championship, ninth
at the NCAA Division III Regional and 37th at the NCAA Division III
Championship.
This was the second consecutive season that UW-Oshkosh owned the
WIAC’s Athlete of the Year, with Ayla Mitchell winning the
award in 2009.
UW-Eau Claire's Dan Schwamberger was named the 2010 WIAC Coach of
the Year.
