Mitchell Collects Sixth WIAC Runner Of The Week Award
UW-Oshkosh's Ayla Mitchell (Sr. • New Richmond) earned her
sixth WIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award after
winning the Brooks Invitational held Oct. 17 at the Lake Breeze
Golf Club in Winneconne.
Mitchell defeated defending NCAA Division III champion Marie
Borner of Bethel University (Minn.) for the individual title as
UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the team standings. Mitchell, who
placed third at last year's NCAA Division III Championship, won
this year's Brooks Invitational title with a 6,000-meter time of
20:28. Borner finished right behind Mitchell with a second-place
time of 20:35. Last year, Borner finished first and Mitchell third
at the Brooks Invitational with times of 20:36 and 20:42,
respectively. A total of 466 runners finished this year's race.
Calvin College (Mich.), the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division
III by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country
Coaches Association, scored 80 points to successfully defend its
Brooks Invitational title. 10th-ranked Washington University (Mo.)
finished second among the 34 teams with 93 points, while NCAA
Division II University of Minnesota-Duluth placed third with 98,
25th-ranked DePauw University fourth with 140 and 12th-ranked
UW-Oshkosh fifth with 182.
Connor Lonning of UW-La Crosse was named the WIAC Men's Cross
Country Runner of the Week.
