Mitchell Outruns Field As Titans Place Fifth At Brooks Invitational

Ayla Mitchell (Sr. • New Richmond) defeated defending NCAA Division III champion Marie Borner of Bethel University (Minn.) for the individual title as the UW-Oshkosh women's cross country team finished fifth at the Brooks Invitational held Saturday (Oct. 17) at the Lake Breeze Golf Cub in Winneconne.

Mitchell, who placed third at last year's NCAA Division III Championship, won this year's 6,000-meter race at the Brooks Invitational with a time of 20:28. Borner finished right behind Mitchell in the individual listings with time of 20:35. Last year, Borner finished first and Mitchell third at the Brooks Invitational with times of 20:36 and 20:42, respectively.

A total of 466 runners completed this year's course, with Morgan Place of the University of Minnesota-Duluth finishing third in 20:45, Megan O'Grady of Carroll University fourth in 20:58 and Lauren Reich of DePauw University (Ind.) fifth in 21:01.

Calvin College (Mich.), the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, scored 80 points to successfully defend its Brooks Invitational title. 10th-ranked Washington University (Mo.) finished second among the 34 teams with 93 points, while NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Duluth placed third with 98, 25th-ranked DePauw University fourth with 140 and 12th-ranked UW-Oshkosh fifth with 182.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were sixth-place and 11th-ranked Bethel University with 186 points, seventh-place Hope College (Mich.) with 188, eighth-place University of Chicago (Ill.) with 211, ninth-place North Central College (Ill.) with 283 and 10th-place UW-Stevens Point with 292.

Jennifer Piskor (Jr. • Eagan, Minn.) was the second UW-Oshkosh runner to cross the finish line. Piskor placed 46th with a time of 22:36, while McKenzie Kelly (Fr. • New Richmond) finished 48th in 22:41, Cassie Petersen (Jr. • Marinette) 54th in 22:48, Mallory Burk (Jr. • Athens) 66th in 22:54 and Allison Gehl (Jr. • Sherwood) 81st in 23:04.

The Titans also had Jordan Clark-Mand (Jr. • Waupun) finish 101st in 23:19, Samantha Helgesen (So. • Bristol) 116th in 23:33, Brittany Haas (Jr. • St. Charles, Ill.) 148th in 23:55, Kelsey Sweeney (Fr. • Verona) 177th in 24:13, Janelle Brooks (So. • Janesville) 202nd in 24:29, Shannon Madigan (Sr. • Green Bay) 229th in 24:48, Megan Tyjeski (So. • Wisconsin Rapids) 244th in 24:57, Lauren Pinzl (Fr. • Mercer) 270th in 25:20, Kristin Stockheimer (Fr. • West Salem) 280th in 25:27, Kathryn Magnor (So. • Brookfield) 337th in 26:20, Carlyn Brown (So. • Belleville) 350th in 26:34 and Leah Rebne (Fr. • Park Falls) 387th in 27:21.

UW-Oshkosh will host a non-scoring meet on Friday (Oct. 23) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
