Damkot Takes Third at WIAC Championships

MADISON, Wis.— Cordelia Damkot finished in third place at the 2022 WIAC Tennis Championships this afternoon in the No. 4 singles competition for the UW-Oshkosh Titans.

Damkot defeated Ani Bulbulian (La Crosse), 7-5, 6-0 in the opening round before dropping to Kasey Schlicht of Whitewater, 6-0, 6-1. Damkot defeated Barbara Covek of Stevens Point in the third place match 6-1, 6-2.

Louisa Damkot and Jenna Nolde finished in fifth place in their No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches. Damkot fell to Faith Leithold (Stevens Point) 6-3, 6-1 and received a bye in the second round. Damkot defeated Kyrstin Hanson (Stout) in the fifth place match 6-2, 6-0. Nolde fell to Maya Kunza (Stevens Point) in the opening round, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Nolde went on to defeat Madeline Binczak (Stout) before defeating Karyn Duddeck (River Falls) 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth place match.

In the No. 2 singles, Alexandra Schmoldt dropped the opening round to Tristin Jantz (Stevens Point) 6-1, 6-1 before defeating Alexis Budzinski (River Falls) 6-0, 6-0 in the second round. Schmoldt dropped the fifth place match to Ellie Becker (Stout) 7-5, 6-2. In the No. 6 singles, Hannah Stitt dropped the opening round to Sydney Presler (Eau Claire) 6-2, 6-0. Stitt defeated Grace Aerts (River Falls) 6-4, 6-0, before falling in the fifth round match to Lexie Stein (Stout) 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).

Alysa Pattee competed in the No. 1 singles for the Titans, dropping matches to Clare Palen (Eau Claire) and Lauren Couves (Stout).

In doubles action, the Damkot sisters took home fifth place in the No. 3 spot. The Damkots fell to Morgan Dekan and Sydney Presler (Eau Claire) 8-1 in the opening round before posting victories over Kylie Rennie and Ashlyn Dellemann (Stout), 8-2 and Karyn Duddeck and Kennedy Zeifert (River Falls) 8-3 in the fifth place match.

Pattee and Schmoldt took home sixth place in the No. 1 double spot alongside Courtney Carpenter and Nolde in the No. 2 doubles spot.

Pattee was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team at the event.
