Titans Sink Vikings In Home Opener

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team won four of the six singles matches and pulled out a 5-4 home-opening victory over Lawrence University on Tuesday (Sept. 6) at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Courts.

The Titans received singles wins from Alysa Pattee at No. 1, Alexandra Schmoldt at No. 2, Louisa Damkot at No. 3 and Cordelia Damkot at No. 4 in addition to a No. 3 Doubles victory by Cordelia Damkot and Louisa Damkot.

The Damkots teamed up to down Lawrence's Anna Vanden Acker and Amelia Watson, 8-4, in the third flight of doubles.

In singles action, Pattee came back to beat Margot Connor, 5-7, 6-4, 10-8; Schmoldt bested Lauren Aturaliya, 6-2, 7-6; Louisa Damkot defeated Emma Koppa by scores of 6-2, 7-6; and Cordelia Damkot beat Chloe Lamb, 6-4, 6-4.

UW-Oshkosh (1-0) improved to 27-9 against Lawrence (1-2) since 1985. The Titans' victory Tuesday avenges a 5-4 setback to Lawrence last season.

The Vikings claimed the top two doubles flights as Connor and Koppa outscored UW-Oshkosh's Pattee and Schmoldt, 8-2, at No. 1, and Aturaliya and Lamb eked out an 8-5 decision over Courtney Carpenter and Jenna Nolde.

In the final two singles flights, Lawrence's Vanden Acker slipped past Nolde, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 5, and Morgan Fisher defeated the Titans' Hannah Stitt, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Titans travel to Ripon College for a nonconference dual match Saturday (Sept. 10).
