Vikings Hold On To Edge Titans

UW-Oshkosh's rally from a 4-1 deficit came up short as the Titans dropped a 5-4 decision to the Lawrence University women's tennis team on Thursday (Sept. 9) in Appleton.

The Titans (0-2) pulled to within 4-3 of the Vikings (2-1) on individual victories by Michelle Spicer and Hannah Stitt before Chloe Lamb's 6-2, 6-0 triumph over UW-Oshkosh's Alessandra Rivera at No. 4 singles gave Lawrence University its fifth team point to secure the win.

Spicer earned her victory with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Margot Connor in the first flight of the singles competition while Stitt picked up her win with a 6-3, 6-3 result over Morgan Fisher in the fifth.

UW-Oshkosh also received a 7-6, 6-2 win from Alyssa Pattee over Lauren Aturaliya at No. 2 singles.

Other individual winners for Lawrence University were Emma Koppa and Lizza Angemi. Koppa defeated Jenna Nolde, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles while Angemi ousted Jade Schwichow, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.

Lawrence University opened the match by taking two of the three doubles contests. The Vikings collected an 8-1 victory from Connor and Koppa over Pattee and Spicer in the first flight and an 8-4 win from Aturaliya and Lamb over Nolde and Rivera in the second.

The lone UW-Oshkosh doubles victory was an 8-7 triumph by Stitt and Angie Carini over Angemi and Fisher in the third flight.
