Titans Defeated By Warhawks In Season Debut

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule with a 9-0 road loss to 14-time defending Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion UW-Whitewater on Friday (Sept. 3).

UW-Whitewater (4-0, 1-0 WIAC) won 24 of the contest's 28 doubles games and swept all six singles flights in straight sets to earn its 111th consecutive victory over a WIAC opponent.

UW-Oshkosh (0-1, 0-1 WIAC) suffered a pair of 8-2 defeats in doubles play as Alyssa Pattee and Michelle Spicer lost to Autumn Bruno and Cassie Lee in the first flight while Angie Carini and Hannah Stitt lost to Bryce Bigelow and Madalyn Bigelow in the third.

The Warhawks won the No. 2 doubles contest as Kellie Ha and Bethany Marshall defeated Jenna Nolde and Alessandra Rivera, 8-0.

UW-Whitewater then secured its victory over UW-Oshkosh with wins by Molly Rueth and Gianna Nikoleit at No. 4 and No. 1 singles, respectively. Rueth defeated Rivera, 6-0, 6-0, while Nikoleit outscored Spicer, 6-0, 6-1.

UW-Oshkosh received its best individual result from Stitt, who lost a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Madalyn Bigelow in the fifth flight.

The Warhawks won the remaining three individual competitions by 6-0, 6-0 scores. UW-Whitewater victories went to Olivia Kraft over Pattee in the second flight, Courtney Day over Nolde in the third and Sarah Ferguson over Jade Schwichow in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Whitewater to attend Saturday's (Sept. 4) eight-team UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational. The event features three flights of both singles and doubles competition.
