Titans Defeated By Eagles

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team closed a challenging week of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference activity with a 9-0 loss to UW-La Crosse on Saturday (April 10) at Valley Fitness & Racquet in Neenah.

Saturday's match was UW-Oshkosh's third in the past five days against league opponents. The Titans previously hosted 13-time defending conference champion UW-Whitewater (8-5, 4-0 WIAC) on Tuesday (April 6) before visiting UW-Stevens Point (5-1, 2-1) on Wednesday (April 7).

UW-La Crosse (6-1, 3-0 WIAC), which is expected to battle UW-Whitewater for this year's conference championship, won all but 10 games in Saturday's match with UW-Oshkosh (0-4, 0-3).

The Titans opened the contest with Angie Carini and Courtney Salisbury losing an 8-2 decision to Morgan Graf and Lauren Witt at No. 2 doubles.

UW-La Crosse followed with a pair of 8-1 doubles victories as Kellie Hierl and Kimberly Steinert defeated Michell Spicer and Maddie Toboyek in the first flight while Susi Hu and Katie Kearney ousted Madeline Beck and Hannah Stitt in the third.

In singles competition, UW-Oshkosh had Salisbury, Stitt and Carini win two games apiece. Salisbury lost a 6-2, 6-0 result to Hannah Riegle in the third flight while Stitt and Carini dropped 6-1, 6-1 decisions to Witt in the fourth and Kaitlyn Kalinka in the sixth flights, respectively.

The Eagles received 6-0, 6-0 victories from Steinert in the first, Hierl in the second and Graf in the third flight of singles play. Steinert was a winner over Spicer while Hierl defeated Toboyek and Graf ousted Beck.

UW-La Crosse has won its last six matches, including the last five by 9-0 scores.

UW-Oshkosh returns to action Wednesday (April 14) at UW-Stout.
