Titans Overwhelm Sabres In Home Opener

Straight-set victories in all six singles flights secured a 9-0 win for the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team over Marian University on Thursday (Sept. 6) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

The Titans (1-0) began their first home match of the 2018 season with a sweep of the three doubles contests, including an 8-2 triumph by Kelley Hodyl and Hannah Peters over Emma Lewandowski and Mackenzie Meyers in the first flight.

UW-Oshkosh won the No. 2 doubles contest as Alyssa Leffler and Michelle Spicer defeated Meg Hartzell and Brenda Ordonez, 8-3, and the No. 3 doubles battle as Samantha Koppa and Ireland Slattery ousted Erica Counter and Celeste Degeneffe, 8-2.

UW-Oshkosh received its easiest individual victories from Koppa in the third flight and Monica Micoliczyk in the sixth. Koppa took a 6-0, 6-1 decision from Kyrsten Bruce and Micoliczyk a 6-2, 6-1 result from Kristin Houle.

Leffler won the No. 1 singles contest with her 6-3, 6-4 victory Hartzell and Peters the No. 2 singles challenge with her 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Lewandowski.

The Titans also received wins from Hodyl at No. 4 and Michelle Spicer at No. 5 singles. Hodyl defeated Meyers, 6-1, 6-4, while Spicer outscored Degeneffe, 6-2, 6-3.

UW-Oshkosh has won its last eight meetings with Marian University (1-1).

UW-Oshkosh returns to action on Friday (Sept. 7) with a match at St. Norbert College.
