Titans Construct Win Over Blue Devils

UW-Oshkosh pulled away with wins in all six flights of the singles competition to defeat the UW-Stout women's tennis team, 8-1, on Friday (Oct. 13). The match began outdoors at the Kolf Sports Center Complex before moving indoors to the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center due to inclement weather.                       

UW-Oshkosh (7-3, 3-3 WIAC) assembled a 4-1 lead over UW-Stout (4-6, 2-3 WIAC) during the outdoor portion of the match thanks to individual victories by Bailey Sagen, Lesley Kutnink and Kelley Hodyl.

Sagen defeated the Blue Devils' Linsey Thisius, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles while Kutnink ousted Gabe Kelch, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5. Hodyl earned her win with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Kennedy Kleist at No. 6 singles.

The teams split their two outdoor doubles matches as UW-Oshkosh's Sagen and Hannah Peters won the first flight and UW-Stout's Kelch and Kleist the second.

Peters and Sagen outscored Thisius and Katie Kreibich, 8-4, while Kelch and Kleist outlasted Kutnink and Ashlee Polena, 8-6.

Inside, UW-Oshkosh concluded the doubles competition with a win by Samantha Koppa and Alyssa Leffler. The Titan tandem defeated Annie Sandry and Jenna Welke, 8-5, in their contest at No. 2 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh's list of individual winners finished with the indoor victories by Leffler in the second, Peters in the third and Koppa in the fourth.

Leffler rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 10-1 decision over Kreibich while Peters prevailed with a 6-4, 7-5 result over Sandry. Koppa had little trouble during her 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Welke.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the WIAC Championship next Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 21-22) at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
