Titans To Compete At WIAC Championship

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will strive for a seventh straight title at the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Tennis Championship that will be conducted Oct. 26-27 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. The 42nd meeting of league teams will also decide six singles champions and three sets of doubles winners.

The team title will be determined by using a combination of the regular-season dual-meet standings and the WIAC championship results.  The finish in the regular-season standings accounts for one-third of the criteria, while the conference championship accounts for the remaining two-thirds.

Point distribution following the dual-meet rotation included:  UW-Whitewater (6-0) (7 points), UW-La Crosse (5-1) (6 points), UW-Eau Claire (4-2) (5 points), UW-Stevens Point (3-3) (4 points), UW-Oshkosh (2-4) (3 points), UW-River Falls (1-5) (2 points) and UW-Stout (0-6) (1 point).

The initial day of competition at the conference event will consist of the first two rounds of doubles matches followed by the first round of singles matches.  The second day of the championship will feature the final two rounds of singles matches followed by the last round of doubles matches.

The top four teams (following the conclusion of the WIAC championship) will advance to a team tournament that will determine the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship.  The team tournament will be held at the site of the overall conference champion prior to the NCAA championship next spring.

UW-Whitewater owns 13 conference championships, while UW-La Crosse has 15 and UW-Eau Claire 12.

Individually, UW-Whitewater senior Alexandra Bayliss has collected three singles crowns and a pair of doubles titles.  She posted a first-place finish at No. 2 singles a season ago, after winning No. 4 singles in 2011 and No. 5 singles in 2010.  Bayliss is a two-time defending champion at No. 1 doubles.

Warhawk sophomore Erika Williams captured the No. 6 singles championship last year, while senior Jackie Vitale has claimed two doubles titles - No. 2 doubles a season ago and No. 3 doubles in 2011.

UW-Eau Claire senior Katie Gillman is the defending champion at No. 3 singles, while UW-La Crosse senior Abby Tresedder was a No. 2 doubles winner in 2010.

Also producing consistent performances for their squads this fall have been:  UW-Eau Claire sophomores Paige Kuepers and Colleen McCullough, junior Madison Rossebo and senior Mary Frassetto; UW-La Crosse sophomores Bryanne Blanton, Jennifer Graham and Kimmy Mrozek; UW-Oshkosh seniors Morgan Counts and Valerie Langkau; UW-River Falls freshmen Anna Ebensperger and Kelly Mendel; UW-Stevens Point seniors Rachel Brown and Taylor Weuve, along with freshmen Katelyn Asfeld and Hayley Schlueter; UW-Stout junior Cortney Hallahan; and UW-Whitewater freshman Megan Humphreys and senior Hillary Franzen.
