Theobald, Langkau Lead Titans At UW-Whitewater Invite

Brianna Theobald and Valerie Langkau finished third in their respective singles flights to lead UW-Oshkosh at the UW-Whitewater Women's Tennis Invitational held Saturday (Aug. 31) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater won the eight-team event with 51 points, while UW-La Crosse placed second with 27, Augustana College (Ill.) third with 26, Carthage College fourth with 16.5 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 12.5. The Titans finished eighth at last year's tournament with six points.

Theobald took third place at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 3-6 (10-8) victory over Bryanna Blanton of UW-La Crosse. Theobald opened play with a 2-6, 6-2 (10-4) win over Abby Howell of Carthage College before dropping a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Megan Humphreys of UW-Whitewater.

Winning on a default by Augustana College's Mariah Bardo, Langkau captured third place at No. 3 singles. Langkau began action with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Gracie Mullins of Lake Forest College (Ill.) before suffering a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Hillary Franzen of UW-Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh's Andrea Larson finished eighth after losing all three of her contests at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, Morgan Counts and Erica Van Riper recorded UW-Oshkosh's highest finish. The tandem took fifth place after posting a 7-6 (3), 7-5 win over Shanaz Daneshdoost and Emma Macdonald of Grinnell College. Counts and Van Riper compiled a 2-1 record, including a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Lauren Casey and Lauren Drawbridge of Illinois Wesleyan University.

The Titans also had Hannah Bostwick and Llora Waldman finish seventh (1-2 record) at No. 2 doubles and Maggie Bolton and Sarah Gray eighth (0-3 record) at No. 3 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh hosts Carroll University on Tuesday (Sept. 3) to begin a string of five consecutive matches at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
