Titans Split Decisions With Knights, Eagles

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team marked a tally on each side of the ledger after recording a 5-4 win over Wartburg College (Iowa) and a 9-0 loss to UW-La Crosse on Saturday (April 6) in La Crosse.

UW-Oshkosh (10-8) won four of the six singles contests to capture its victory over Wartburg College (10-8). The performance helped the Titans overcome a 2-1 deficit after the completion of doubles play.

Individual winners for UW-Oshkosh were Morgan Counts (Jr. • Oshkosh) in the first flight, Erica Van Riper (So. • Waukesha) in the third, Karlie Laveau (So. • Waukesha) in the fourth and Llora Waldman (So. • Wausau) in the fifth.

Counts defeated Jennifer Dallenbach, 6-0, 6-1, while Van Riper ousted Katherine Ross, 6-2, 6-0, and Laveau outscored Claire Evans, 7-5, 6-1. Waldman notched a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Michelle Mackenzie.

The Titans won at No. 1 doubles as Counts and Van Riper edged Evans and Melissa Davis, 9-7.

Wartburg College picked up individual wins from Davis in the second flight and Brita Jensen in the sixth. Davis defeated Valeria Langkau (Jr. • Oshkosh), 6-2, 6-2, while Jensen ousted Hannah Bostwick (So. • Whitefish Bay), 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, the Knights received wins from Dallenbach and Ross in the second flight and Jensen and Mackenzie in the third. Dallenbach and Ross marked an 8-6 win over Langkau and Laveau, while Jensen and Mackenzie tallied an 8-4 victory over Maggie Bolton (Fr. • Janesville) and Andrea Larson (Jr. • Hartland).

UW-La Crosse (12-7) dominated UW-Oshkosh by winning all six singles contests in straight sets while losing just nine games in doubles play.

UW-Oshkosh lost a pair of 6-2, 6-3 individual decisions as Langkau fell to Kimmy Mrozek in the second flight and Van Riper to Bryanne Blanton in the third. Abby Tresedder posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Counts in the first flight.

Other individual winners for the Eagles were Jennifer Graham in the fourth flight, Kendra Woyahn in the fifth and Olivia Hartwick in the sixth. Graham defeated Karlie Laveau, 6-2, 6-1, while Woyahn ousted Waldman, 6-1, 6-2. Hartwick beat Bostwick, 6-2, 6-2.

UW-La Crosse registered a pair of 8-4 wins in doubles play as Blanton and Tresedder conquered Counts and Van Riper in the first flight and Graham and Woyahn prevailed over Bostwick and Larson in the third. Hartwick and Mrozek contributed an 8-1 victory over Langkau and Larson in the second flight.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it visits UW-Whitewater for a semifinal round match of the WIAC Team Tournament on April 27.
