Titans Defeat Pointers To Even Conference Record

Morgan Counts (Jr. • Oshkosh) won in the second flight of both singles and doubles play as the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team defeated UW-Stevens Point, 7-2, on Thursday (Oct. 11) in Stevens Point.

Counts teamed with Erica Van Riper (So. • Waukesha) to edge Allison Fortier and Monica Preisig, 8-6. Counts then smothered Taylor Weuve, 6-1,6-0, to raise her individual record to 11-5 on the season.

UW-Oshkosh (9-4/3-3 WIAC) took contests at No. 1 and No. 3 singles as Preslee Nolte (So. • Warren, N.J.) defeated Rachel Brown, 7-6 (4), 7-5, and Valerie Langkau (Jr. • Oshkosh) ousted Katelyn Presti, 6-2, 6-2, respectively.

The Titans wrapped up singles action with wins from Van Riper in the fifth flight and Karlie Laveau (So. • Waukesha) in the sixth. Van Riper topped Molly Hendries, 6-2, 6-3, while Laveau battled back to beat Fortier, 6-2, 2-6 (10-1). Laveau upped her season record to 10-2 with the win.

UW-Oshkosh's final victory came at No. 3 doubles, where Langkau and Laveau defeated Natalie Cardenas and Lauren Steinkamp, 8-2.

UW-Stevens Point (2-8/1-5) earned its team points on wins by Preisig at No. 4 singles and Brown and Weuve at No. 1 doubles. Preisig downed Megan Etten (Jr. • Howard), 7-5, 6-2, while Brown and Weuve beat Etten and Nolte, 8-5.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 20-21 in Madison.
