Titans Suffer Loss To Blugolds

Karlie Laveau (So. • Waukesha) improved her season record to 9-1 during UW-Oshkosh's 8-1 loss to the UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team on Saturday (Oct. 6) in Eau Claire.

Laveau gave the Titans (8-4/2-3 WIAC) their lone team point when she defeated Colleen McCullough, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6 singles. Competing at No. 3 doubles, Laveau and Valerie Langkau (Jr. • Oshkosh) lost a 9-7 decision to Mary Frassetto and Paige Kuepers.

UW-Eau Claire (8-1/4-1 WIAC) gained another narrow victory at No. 1 singles, where Taylor Heltne got past Preslee Nolte (So. • Warren, N.J.), 6-3, 7-6. Heltne then teamed with Katie Gillman for an 8-3 win over Nolte and Megan Etten (Jr. • Howard) at No.1 doubles.

The Blugolds completed their sweep of doubles play with an 8-4 victory by Gretchen Bachmeier and Maddie Johnson over Morgan Counts (Jr. • Oshkosh) and Erica Van Riper (So. • Waukesha) in the second flight.

Bachmeier and Johnson contributed individual wins for UW-Eau Claire by posting victories of 6-4, 6-2 over Counts in the second flight and 6-2, 6-2 over Etten in the fourth flight, respectively.

Singles action concluded with UW-Eau Claire victories by Katie Gillman and Frassetto. Gillman won 6-1, 6-2 over Langkau in the third flight while Frassetto won 6-1, 6-4 over Van Riper in the fifth.

UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-Stevens Point on Thursday (Oct. 11).
