Titans Record Easy Win Over Blue Devils

UW-Oshkosh evened its conference record with a 9-0 win over the UW-Stout women's tennis team on Friday (Oct. 5) in Menomonie.

The Titans (8-3/2-2 WIAC) opened the match with three convincing victories in doubles play, including an 8-0 triumph by Megan Etten (Jr. • Howard) and Preslee Nolte (So. • Warren, N.J.) over Abby Cornelius and Emily Grossen in the first flight.

UW-Oshkosh's Morgan Counts (Jr. • Oshkosh) and Erica Van Riper (So. • Waukesha) earned an 8-3 win over Molly Denney and Kelsey Pedersen in the second flight while the Titans' Valerie Langkau (Jr. • Oshkosh) and Karlie Laveau (So. • Waukesha) tallied an 8-2 victory over Elizabeth Burda and Emily Gawronski in the third.

In singles play, Counts registered a 6-1, 6-0 win over Grossen in the second flight while Van Riper marked a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Elizabeth Lehnertz in the fifth. At No. 1 singles, Nolte defeated Cornelius, 6-4, 6-1.

Other individual winners for the Titans were Langkau in the third flight, Laveau in the sixth and Etten in the fourth. Langkau defeated Denney, 6-4, 6-0, while Laveau ousted Jadie Hurlburt, 6-1, 6-3. Etten worked overtime as she edged Pedersen by a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) score.

UW-Oshkosh, which defeated UW-Stout (2-7/0-4 WIAC) for the 14th time in 19 contests, plays at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 6).
