Titans Fall To Phoenix, Eagles

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team suffered losses to NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay and WIAC rival UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Sept. 29) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-Green Bay (1-1) snapped UW-Oshkosh's seven-match winning streak with a 5-4 victory before UW-La Crosse (6-3/3-1 WIAC) shut out the Titans by a 9-0 score in the nightcap.

Against UW-Green Bay, UW-Oshkosh (7-2/1-1 WIAC) earned three of its team points in singles play. The Titans had Morgan Counts (Jr. • Oshkosh) defeat Eleanor O'Brien, 6-4, 6-1, in the second flight, Valerie Langkau (Jr. • Oshkosh) oust Samantha Iwen, 6-2, 6-4, in the third and Karlie Laveau (So. • Waukesha) beat Rachael Menos, 6-2, 6-2, in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh won at No. 3 doubles as Langkau and Laveau defeated Menos and O'Brien, 8-4.

UW-Green Bay received individual victories from Amanda Timm in the first flight, Stephanie Londre in the fourth and Maria Anderson in the fifth. Timm posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Preslee Nolte (So. • Warren, N.J.), while Londre marked a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Megan Etten (Jr. • Howard). Anderson recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Erica Van Riper (So. • Waukesha).

The Phoenix also picked up wins from Iwen and Timm at No. 1 doubles and Anderson and Londre at No. 2 doubles. Iwen and Timm topped Etten and Nolte, 8-1, while Anderson and Londre edged Counts and Van Riper, 8-6.

Against UW-La Crosse, Nolte and Etten both lost individual contests on a tiebreaker. Nolte lost a 4-6, 6-2 (10-4) decision to Abby Tresedder in the first flight, while Etten dropped a 6-2, 3-6 (10-3) result to Bryanne Blanton in the fourth.

At No. 2 doubles, the UW-Oshkosh tandem of Counts and Van Riper lost a 9-8 verdict to Blanton and Andrea Vivian.

The Eagles also collected individual wins from Olivia Hartwick in the second flight, Karie Williams in the third, Kimmy Mrozek in the fifth and Vivian in the sixth. Hartwick won by a 6-1, 6-0 score over Counts, Williams by a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Langkau, Mrozek by a 6-2, 6-3 ruling over Van Riper and Vivian by a 6-2, 6-2 result over Laveau.

UW-La Crosse completed the shutout with wins of 8-3 by Hartwick and Tresedder over Etten and Nolte at No. 1 doubles and 8-1 by Williams and Rachael Wabers over Langkau and Laveau at No. 3 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh hosts five-time defending WIAC champion UW-Whitewater on Tuesday (Oct. 2) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
