Larson & Waldman Duo Lead Titans In Season Opener

Andrea Larson (Jr. • Hartland) and Llora Waldman (So. • Wausau) finished fourth at No. 3 doubles to lead UW-Oshkosh at the UW-Whitewater Women's Tennis Invitational held Saturday (Sept. 1) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater won the eight-team event with 47 points, while UW-La Crosse placed second with 28.5, UW-Eau Claire third with 25, Carthage College fourth with 16.5 and Grinnell College (Iowa) fifth with 14. UW-Oshkosh ranked eighth in its 2012-13 season debut with six points.

The Larson and Waldman tandem opened play with a 2-6, 6-2 (10-7) win over Krista Matthews-Saugstad and Kelsey Scott of Grinnell College. Following a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Josie Linman and Nicole Nelson of Illinois Wesleyan University, Larson and Waldman dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Paige Kuepers and Renee Nelson of UW-Eau Claire in their third-place match.

In singles competition, Preslee Nolte (So. • Warren, N.J.) and Megan Etten (Jr. • Howard) finished sixth in the first and second flights, respectively. The Titans' Morgan Counts (Jr. • Oshkosh) placed seventh in the second flight.

The Titans also had Hannah Bostwick (So. • Whitefish Bay) and Erica Van Riper (So. • Waukesha) finish seventh at No. 2 doubles and Valerie Langkau (Jr. • Oshkosh) and Karlie Laveau (So. • Waukesha) eighth at No. 1 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh hosts Marian University on Friday (Sept. 7) at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Courts.
