Eagles' Strong Singles Play Stifles Titans

Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) rallied back for UW-Oshkosh's lone individual victory during the Titans' 7-2 women's tennis defeat to Robert Morris University (Ill.) on Wednesday (March 21) in Orlando, Fla.

Robert Morris University, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, won five singles matches without losing more than four games. Bostwick got her comeback victory by defeating Anastasia Khabirova by a 1-6, 6-2 (10-4) tally at No. 1 singles.

UW-Oshkosh (7-8) notched its other team point at No. 2 doubles. There, Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) and Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J.) defeated Khabirova and Rocio Rapallo Fernandez, 8-4.

Robert Morris University (9-1) owned the winner in the second through sixth singles flights. The Eagles got a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Ana Kostic over Counts in the third flight and a 6-2, 6-0 triumph from Maria Bellorin over Llora Waldman (Fr. • Wausau) in the sixth.

Other singles winners for the Eagles were Alejandra Gamboa in the second flight, Fernandez in the fourth and Stephanie Messina in the fifth. Gamboa defeated Nolte, 6-2, 6-1, while Fernandez ousted Karlie Laveau (Fr. • Waukesha), 6-2, 6-2. Messina marked a 6-1, 6-2 win over Erica Van Riper (Fr. • Waukesha).

Robert Morris University won the top doubles flight as Gamboa and Messina defeated Bostwick and Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale), 9-7. The Eagles took the No. 3 doubles contest as Bellorin and Kostic topped Laveau and Van Riper, 8-4.

UW-Oshkosh has a break before its April 14 home match with UW-Stevens Point.
