Titans Slug Vikings To Remain Undefeated

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team remained unbeaten with an 8-1 victory over Lawrence University on Thursday (Sept. 24) in Appleton.

UW-Oshkosh (3-0) won 24 of its 28 doubles games, including an 8-0 triumph by Brittany Braasch (Sr. • Ixonia) and Whitney Tornow (Jr. • Neenah) over Elizabeth Byers and Katherine Valde in the second flight.

The Titans also received an 8-1 victory from Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) and Liz Leffler (So. • Racine) over Beth Larson and Jennifer Roesch at No. 1 doubles and an 8-3 win from Jennifer Pietkauskis (So. • Sharon) and Erica Troia (So. • Madison) over Anica Cihla and Katie Schuld at No. 3 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh, which defeated Lawrence University for the 14th time in 16 meetings, captured five singles victories in straight sets. The Titans' lone shutout came in the sixth flight, where Pietkauskis crushed Cihla, 6-0, 6-0.

Other singles winners for UW-Oshkosh were Bostwick in the second flight, Eva Counsell (So. • Elkhorn) in the third, Braasch in the fourth and Tornow in the fifth. Bostwick defeated Roesch, 6-2, 6-2, while Counsell ousted Schuld, 6-1, 6-1, and Braasch topped Valde, 7-5, 6-4. Tornow posted a 6-0, 6-4 win over Byers.

Lawrence University (4-8) picked up its lone team point at No. 1 singles, where Larson defeated Leffler, 6-2, 6-1.

UW-Oshkosh returns to the court with a home match against UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Sept. 26).
