Titans Conquer Blue Devils In WIAC Debut

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team opened WIAC play with a convincing 7-2 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday (Sept. 19) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-Oshkosh (2-0/1-0 WIAC) tallied five straight-set individual wins, including Whitney Tornow's (Jr. • Neenah) 6-0, 6-0 victory over Stephanie Schick in the fifth flight and Jennifer Pietkauskis' (So. • Sharon) 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Callie Mikolajczak in the sixth.

Working a little bit harder to earn singles wins for the Titans were Liz Leffler (So. • Racine) in the second flight, Eva Counsell (So. • Elkhorn) in the third and Brittany Braasch (Sr. • Ixonia) in the fourth. Leffler defeated Abby Werwie, 6-1, 6-4, while Counsell ousted Erin James, 6-4, 6-3, and Braasch topped Katie Sorensen, 6-3, 6-4.

Allie Hinman gave UW-Stout (3-4/0-2 WIAC) its lone singles win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) in the first flight.

In doubles action, UW-Oshkosh got wins of 8-1 from Braasch and Tornow in the second flight and 8-2 from Pietkauskis and Erica Troia (So. • Madison) in the third. On the short end of those contests for the Blue Devils were James and Sorensen in the second flight and Mikolajczak and Schick in the third.

UW-Oshkosh's lone doubles setback was in the first flight, were Bostwick and Leffer dropped an 8-4 decision to Hinman and Werwie.

The Titans take to the road for a dual match at Lawrence University on Thursday (Sept. 24).
