Titans Squash Red Hawks In Dual Opener

All of the success belonged to UW-Oshkosh as the Titans shut out Ripon College, 9-0, in a women's tennis match held Tuesday (Sept. 15) in Ripon.

UW-Oshkosh (1-0) won five of its six singles contests in straight sets and yielded just four points in taking all three of its doubles challenges. The results gave the Titans their eighth straight victory over the Red Hawks (1-4) and a win in their dual opener for the fourth consecutive year.

UW-Oshkosh's Whitney Tornow (Jr. • Neenah) didn't lose a game as she recorded a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Alison Thies at No. 5 singles. The Titans also received singles wins of 6-1, 6-1 from Eva Counsell (So. • Elkhorn) in the third flight, 6-2, 6-1 from Liz Leffler (So. • Racine) in the second and 6-3, 6-1 from Brittany Braasch (Sr. • Ixonia) in the fourth. Counsell defeated Chelsey Foster, while Leffler beat Ellie Hedberg and Braasch ousted Brooke Deans.

Other singles winners for the Titans were Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) and Jennifer Pietkauskis (So. • Sharon). Bostwick defeated Josie Ullsperger, 6-1, 6-4, in the first flight, while Pietkauskis topped Olivia Wetzel, 4-6, 6-2 (10-5), in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh had a pair of 8-2 winners in doubles play as Braasch and Tornow defeated Deans and Megan Sockness in the second flight and Pietkauskis and Erica Troia (So. • Madison) dropped Hedberg and Wetzel in the third.

The Titans won at No. 1 doubles as Bostwick and Leffler blanked Foster and Ullsperger, 8-0.

UW-Oshkosh begins WIAC play by hosting UW-Stout on Saturday (Sept. 19) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
