Titans Close Season With Losses To Knights, Eagles

Haley Ott (Fr. • Marshfield) earned UW-Oshkosh's lone team point as the Titans concluded their women's tennis season with losses of 8-1 to Wartburg College (Iowa) and 9-0 to UW-La Crosse on Saturday (April 10) in La Crosse.

Ott, competing at No. 5 singles, picked up her first collegiate victory by edging Leanna Jenkins of Wartburg College, 6-0, 5-7 (10-4). She then suffered a 6-1, 6-1 setback to Sarah Schoenwaelder of UW-La Crosse.

Wartburg College (16-8) had five multiple winners in its match with UW-Oshkosh (4-7), including Molly Eslick who won at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Eslick defeated Liz Leffler (So. • Racine) by a 6-2, 6-0 score and teamed with Claire Evans to oust Leffler and Emily Bostwick (So. • Whitefish Bay) by a 9-7 counts. Evans also recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win over Megan Shallbetter (Fr. • Oshkosh) at No. 6 singles.

Adding to the Knights' list of individual winners were Emily Heying, Jenna Dallenbach and Lindsay Greiner. Heying defeated Bostwick by a 6-2, 6-4 score at No. 2 singles, while Dallenbach ousted Eva Counsell (So. • Elkhorn) by a 6-2, 6-2 result at No. 3 singles. Greiner tallied a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Jennifer Pietkauskis (So. • Sharon) at No. 4 singles.

In doubles play, Wartburg College obtained wins from Greiner and Heying in the second flight and Dallenbach and Jenkins in the third. Greiner and Heying defeated Counsell and Pietkauskis, 8-1, while Dallenbach and Jenkins topped Ott and Shannon Stoffregen (Fr. • Sheboygan Falls), 8-3.

UW-La Crosse (15-2) pounced on UW-Oshkosh early as it won 24 of 29 games in doubles play to take a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles got wins of 8-4 from Kelly Kuether and Kelly Stadum over Bostwick and Leffler at No. 1 doubles, 8-0 from Katie McDonald and Amanda O'Keefe over Counsell and Pietkauskis at No. 2 doubles and 8-1 from Megan Fallon and Mara Weiner over Ott and Stoffregen at No. 3 doubles.

UW-La Crosse lost only 19 games in singles action, with eight of them coming in Carlie Bohrman's 7-6, 6-2 win over Counsell in the third flight.

The rest of the match was all UW-La Crosse as the Eagles posted a shutout at No. 4 singles and a near shutout at No. 6 singles. Jenny Maruyama gave UW-La Crosse a 6-0, 6-0 win over Pietkauskis at No. 4 singles, while Andrea Vivian presented the Eagles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Shallbetter at No. 6 singles.

Other singles winners for UW-La Crosse were Kuether in the first flight, Stadum in the second and Schoenwaelder in the fifth. Kuether defeated Leffler, 6-3, 6-1, while Stadum ousted Bostwick, 6-2, 6-2.
