Titans Fall To Defending WIAC Champion Warhawks

Defending WIAC champion UW-Whitewater dominated all nine flights of play as it posted a 9-0 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team on Wednesday (Sept. 30) in Whitewater.

In singles action, UW-Whitewater (7-0/3-0 WIAC) won 72 of the 85 games contested. The results included 6-1, 6-0 victories by Kalla Schaefer over Liz Leffler (So. • Racine) in the first flight and Annie Smith over Brittany Braasch (Sr. • Ixonia) in the fourth.

UW-Oshkosh provided its best competition at No. 6 singles, where Jennifer Pietkauskis (So. • Sharon) dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Kathleen Kappel. The Titans (3-2/1-2 WIAC) suffered a pair of 6-3, 6-0 setbacks as Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) lost to Ingrid Stensvaag at No. 2 singles and Whitney Tornow (Jr. • Neenah) lost to Michelle Daciolas at No. 5 singles.

At No. 3 singles, UW-Oshkosh's Eva Counsell (So. • Elkhorn) fell 6-0, 6-2 to Amy Siemon.

UW-Whitewater took 24 of the 27 games in doubles action, including an 8-0 shutout by Kappel and Siemon over Pietkauskis and Erica Troia (So. • Madison) in the third flight.

UW-Oshkosh lost at No. 2 doubles as Braasch and Tornow dropped an 8-2 decision to Smith and Stensvaag. At No. 1 doubles, Bostwick and Leffler lost an 8-1 verdict to Daciolas and Schaefer.

UW-Oshkosh journeys to St. Norbert College on Friday (Oct. 2).
