Blugolds Hand Titans First Loss Of Season

UW-Oshkosh's season-opening, three-match winning streak came to an abrupt end when UW-Eau Claire defeated the Titans, 9-0, in a women's tennis contest held Saturday (Sept 26) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-Eau Claire (5-1/2-0 WIAC) was led by the play of Gina Dahl, who posted victories at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Dahl beat Liz Leffler (So. • Racine), 6-2, 6-2, and teamed with Courtney Lynne to oust Leffler and Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay), 9-7.

UW-Oshkosh's best singles effort came in the fifth flight, where Whitney Tornow (Jr. • Neenah) dropped a 6-2, 3-6 (10-5) decision to Jillian Horner.

UW-Oshkosh (3-1/1-1 WIAC) suffered a narrow setback at No. 2 doubles as Tornow and Brittany Braasch (Sr. • Ixonia) lost an 8-6 result to Brenna McCormick and Erin Welch.

Other singles winners for UW-Eau Claire were McCormick in the second flight, Megan Born in the third, Welch in the fourth and Taylor Heltne in the sixth. McCormick defeated Bostwick, 7-6, 6-0, while Born ousted Eva Counsell (So. • Elkhorn), 6-2, 6-1, and Welch topped Braasch, 6-3, 6-3. Heltne beat Jennifer Pietkauskis (So. • Sharon), 6-1, 6-1.

UW-Eau Claire's remaining victory went to Born and Helte at No. 3 doubles. The Blugold duo recorded an 8-1 win over Pietkauskis and Erica Troia (So. • Madison).

UW-Oshkosh visits UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Sept. 30).
