Smith Multiple Winner In Dual Meet With Eagles

Freshman Brianna Smith won a pair of freestyle events and swam the final leg of a first-place relay during UW-Oshkosh's non-scoring dual meet with the UW-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team on Saturday (Feb. 13) in Albee Hall.

Smith recorded her individual wins by swimming to freestyle times of 57.09 seconds for 100 yards and 11:33.89 for 1,000. She also helped Jennifer Lutz, Jana Metko and Corrina Winkler register a winning time of 1:49.81 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

UW-Oshkosh earned its other two victories in the diving as freshmen Ella Thibert totaled 190.65 points off the 1-meter board and Calie Gulbrandson 183.15 off the 3-meter plank.

UW-La Crosse, the nine-time defending WIAC champion, won seven individual races and one relay event on Saturday. The Eagles were led by Brooke Presny, who finished first in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle with times of 1:04.37 and 2:04.09, respectively.

The Titans tallied four second-place results as Thibert compiled 182.92 points in the 3-meter diving, Lexi Gray a time of 12:22.30 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, Mackenzie Range a time of 1:16.88 in the 100-yard breaststroke and Allie Wucak 184.12 points in the 1-meter diving.

Alyssa Hassel achieved two of UW-Oshkosh's seven third-place listings by swimming to times of 1:17.04 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:27.68 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Other UW-Oshkosh third-place finishes went to Gray in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:07.33, Gulbrandson in the 1-meter diving with 178.35 points, Wucak in the 3-meter diving with 181.65 points, Olivia Davis in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:09.15 and Emelia Smith in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.43 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh's five fourth-place outcomes featured times of 1:06.02 in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:07.58 in the 200-yard freestyle from Jennifer Lutz. Also finishing fourth were Davis in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.73 seconds and Jana Metko in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:21.49.

Titans Davis, Hassel, Range and Emelia Smith added a fourth-place result with their time of 2:06.70 in the 200-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-Whitewater next Saturday (Feb. 20) for its lone road meet of the 2021 season.
