Titans Record Narrow Win Over Red Hawks

Alison Panske won two freestyle events and swam on a first-place relay as the UW-Oshkosh women's swimming & diving team hung on for a 103-99 victory over Ripon College on Saturday (Feb. 6) in Ripon.

Panske captured her individual victories with freestyle times of 26.62 seconds at 50 yards and 58.20 seconds at 100. She also teamed with Katie Challoner, McKinzie Halkola and Taylor Teske to record a winning time of 1:55.28 in the 200-yard medley relay.

Challoner and Teske both added a first- and second-place finish for the Titans.

Challoner won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.58 while ranking second in the 200-yard individual medley with a performance of 2:23.64. Teske captured the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.54 while listing second in the 100-yard butterfly with an effort of 1:02.99.

UW-Oshkosh had four other second-place performers, including Halkola who posted a time of 2:05.82 in the 200-yard freestyle. The Titans also received second-place times of 12:02.56 in the 1,000-yard freestyle from Casey Houts, 1:13.44 in the 100-yard breaststroke from Katie Kubisiak and 5:52.02 in the 500-Yard freestyle from Janelle Sharpee.

UW-Oshkosh's 200-yard freestyle group of Sharpee, Paige Burgess, Sarah Gee and Davi Ruckdashel contributed a second-place time of 1:53.11.

Five Titans recorded third-place finishes, including Houts, Kubisiak and Sharpee. Houts swam to a time of 5:56.98 in the 500-yard freestyle, while Kubisiak went 2:30.21 in the 200-yard individual medley and Sharpee 12:05.05 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

The Titans also obtained fifth-place times of 1:00.58 in the 100-yard freestyle from Gee and 1:03.38 in the 100-yard backstroke from Halkola.

UW-Oshkosh had three team members competing at the University of Illinois-Chicago Diving Invitational on Saturday in Chicago, Ill.

In the 1-meter diving, Sally Hesby finished eighth among 20 participants with 230.55 points, while Gabrielle Kraus placed 10th with 213.40 and Colleen Barnstable 18th with 162.90.

In the 3-meter diving, Hesby placed sixth among 16 competitors with 237.90 points, while Kraus ranked ninth with 225.90 and Barnstable 13th with 211.95.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the WIAC Championship on Feb.18-20 in Brown Deer. The championship will be held at the Schroeder Aquatic Center.
