Titans Set Three School Records At WIAC Championship

Taylor Teske was involved in all three UW-Oshkosh records set at the WIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship held Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 19-21) at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.

Teske established the Titans' lone individual record in the 100-yard backstroke. She swam to a record time of 58.35 seconds in the preliminaries before finishing second in the finals with a time of 58.59. Brooke Reynolds of UW-La Crosse won the event with a time of 57.48 seconds.

Teske also was a part of the 400-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relay teams that set school records with times of 4:00.33 and 8:04.89, respectively. Other members of the 400-yard medley relay team were Katie Challoner, Britney Hilgendorf and Carissa Priebusch. Casey Houts and Madeline Langlotz joined Teske and Hilgendorf on the 800-yard freestyle relay squad.

Challoner added a pair second-place finishes with breaststroke times of 1:05.89 at 100 yards and 2:24.13 at 200. It was the second straight year that she finished second in both events. Amy Spaay of UW-Whitewater won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.93 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:19.35.

UW-Oshkosh's Sally Hesby cracked the top 10 in both diving events after totaling an eighth-place score of 371.55 off the 1-meter board and a ninth-place value of 401.05 off the 3-meter plank.

In addition to being a part of two school-record relay teams, Hilgendorf finished 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:25.74 and 11th in both the 400-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle with swims of 4:47.99 and 5:16.04.

The Titans' Katie Kubisiak contributed a ninth-place time of 1:09.10 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 12th-place performance of 2:31.99 in the 200-yard breaststroke while Sara Keller supplied a 14th-place time of 2:32.24 in the 200-yard butterfly and a 16th-place effort of 1:06.40 in the 100-yard butterfly.

UW-Oshkosh's McKinzie Halkola placed in a pair of 100-yard swims. She finished 15th with a time of 1:05.56 in the butterfly distance and 16th with a time of 1:05.59 in the backstroke length.

The Titans also had Casey Houts finish 12th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:36.08 and Teske and Carolyn Patt 14th with times of 25.25 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:15.83 in the 100-yard breaststroke, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's top-16 finishes concluded with the efforts of Janelle Sharpee, Kara Atwood and Langlotz. Sharpee and Atwood placed 15th and 16th in the 1,650-yard freestyle after recording times of 19:00.89 and 20:11.32, respectively. Langlotz ranked 16th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.19 seconds.

UW-La Crosse scored 826 points to collect its fourth straight team title and 15th overall. UW-Whitewater took second place in the five-team meet with 750 points, while UW-Stevens Point finished with 617, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 587 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 272.

The WIAC named UW-La Crosse's Jordan Anderson as its Diver of the Meet and UW-Stevens Point's Amanda Walker as its Swimmer of the Meet. UW-Whitewater's Joel Rollings was named the league's Coach of the Year.
