Titans Soccer Tabbed To Finish Second in WIAC Preseason Poll

OSHKOSH, Wis.—The defense of their 2021 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) title, the UW-Oshkosh Titans open the 2022 season with four of their opening five games on the road.

The Titans are forecasted to finish in second in the WIAC Preseason Poll, as released by the league on August 25. The Titans 16 wins last season were the most in program archives.

The Titans will face familiar foes in Ripon, Marian, St. Norbert, and Lawrence in the non-conference slate. Fans can catch their first look of the Titans at home on September 9, 2022 as the Titans welcome Calvin University (Mich.) with a 2 p.m. start time.

The Titans open the season at Ripon on September 1 before swinging to Minnesota for a pair of games against Bethel University (Minn) and Macalester University.

 

2021 Recap

UW-Oshkosh won the 2021 regular season title outright, going 7-0 in league play to make their fifth overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship.

The Titans procured a 16-2-2 record, securing their second regular season title and third conference tournament title.

In the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the Titans faced off against the Thunder of Wheaton College. The Titans took an early 2-0 lead before the Thunder forced overtime and penalty kicks. The Titans were outscored 2-1 in penalty kicks to end the season.

Coach Erin Coppernoll recorded her 200th win in 2021 (Oct. 6) and enters the 2022 season with a 207-169-36 record in 21 seasons (183-124-33 at UWO)

 

2021 by the Numbers

The Titans went undefeated at home, scoring 52 goals. The Titans averaged 18 shots per game, with a 56.4% SOG per game. Titans collected nine shutouts in 2021 season, while recording a program-best 16 victories. Seven Titans were in the top-10 in their respective statistical category, including four Titans that landed in two or more categories.

 

2021 Honors

UW-Oshkosh placed five athletes on the All-WIAC team, including grabbing three of the four top honors. Mackenzie Bennett was named Defensive Player of the Year, while Molly Jackson earned the Newcomer of the Year honor. Maddie Hill, Rylie Kaufmann, and Erin Toomey earned All-WIAC accolades.

Head coach Erin Coppernoll and assistants CJ Dwyer and Ashley Tracy were named the WIAC Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Titans to the regular and postseason titles. Bennett (First Team), Jackson (Second Team), and Mallory Knight (Third Team) picked up honors from the United Soccer Coaches All-Region IX team.
