Women’s Soccer Program Receives Team Academic Award

Exemplary performance in the classroom has earned the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer program a Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches for the second straight year.

UW-Oshkosh, which compiled an overall team grade-point average of 3.48 during the 2018-19 academic year, was one of 647 women's collegiate soccer programs recognized. Among the other programs honored were UW-Oshkosh's WIAC companions UW-Eau Claire (3.22), UW-La Crosse (3.57), UW-Stevens Point (3.51) and UW-Whitewater (3.28).

To qualify for the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, a program must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The award runs a year behind the competition calendar since it also includes academic results from the spring semester.

National Junior College Athletic Association member ASA College Miami (Fla.) had a nation-leading grade-point average of 3.82 during the 2018-19 academic year while NCAA Division I affiliates St. John's University (N.Y.) and University of Cincinnati (Ohio) followed at 3.79.

Since the award was instituted in 1996, UW-Oshkosh has won the United Soccer Coaches' (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Team Academic Award six times. The Titans previously earned the award in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2018.

The 27 members of UW-Oshkosh head coach Erin Coppernoll's team that achieved a 3.0 grade-point average during the 2018-19 academic year were Taylor Arnold, Abby Austin, Ashley Baalke, Savannah Barnes, Mackenzie Bennett, Emily Burg, Erin Gruber, Maddie Hill, Delaney Karl, Mallory Knight, Sierra Koch, Toria Koch, Natalie Lucht, Emma Meyer, Karly Monaco, Maddie Morris, Kalista Paszczak, Amber Richter, Madelyn Runyan, Hope Schaefer-Kemps, Michaela Schenk, Mary Schmidt, Addie Schmitz, Taylor Simkowski, Madison Smith, Erin Toomey and Hannah Zacher.

UW-Oshkosh tallied a 7-11-1 record and placed fourth in the WIAC in 2018.
