Green Knights Escape With One-Goal Win Over Titans

Anja Jacobsen tallied her first two goals of the season with scores in each half to help St. Norbert College defeat UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, in a women's soccer match held Wednesday (Sept. 25) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (3-5-1) sliced its deficit to 2-1 when Alexia Poulos scored off a pass from Delaney Karl during the contest's 81st minute (80:09) of activity. The 10-yard scoring kick by Poulos was her first goal of the season.

Jacobsen gave St. Norbert College (4-5) a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the game's 31st minute (30:18). She scored from three yards after retrieving the ball from a scramble in front of the net.

Jacobsen then put the Green Knights ahead 2-1 with a goal in the 70th minute (69:02). Jacobsen followed a pass from Grace Krause with a 20-yard shot that entered the net after being lofted over the head of UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Erin Toomey.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 12 shots, including four that were saved by St. Norbert College goalkeeper Ally Magiera in the first half. Ava Seifert guarded the Green Knights' goal in the second half and saved one UW-Oshkosh shot.

Tory Schumann paced the Titans with three shots while Mallory Knight launched two.

UW-Oshkosh had shots from Knight (seventh minute), Addie Schmitz (15th), Maddie Morris (20th), Schumann (20th) saved by Magiera and a shot from Grace Herrmann (90th) blocked by Seifert.

UW-Oshkosh's Toomey recorded a pair of saves, stops on second-half shots from Jacobsen (60th minute) and Hannah Lech (65th).

Both teams earned five corner kick opportunities.  

UW-Oshkosh is off until it opens WIAC play at two-time defending league champion UW-La Crosse on Oct. 5.
