Pointers Hold Off Titans After Taking Early Lead

UW-Oshkosh's Mallory Knight scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season during the Titans' 3-1 women's soccer defeat to UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (Oct. 17) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Knight created the game's final result when she kicked a 10-yard shot into the net at the 45:54 mark of the match. Knight, who led the Titans (5-9-1, 2-3 WIAC) with three shots on goal, recorded her score off a pass from Alyssa Gunderson.

Olivia Bohnert, who entered the match with only one goal on the season, gave UW-Stevens Point (11-2-2, 4-0-1 WIAC) an early 2-0 lead with scores during the 15th (14:12) and 21st minute (20:58) of play. Bohnert tallied her first goal, a 10-yard kick, off a pass from Bridget Kauzlaric and her second, a 5-yard header, off a corner kick from Nora Hargett.

UW-Stevens Point concluded its three-goal first half with a score by Jacqueline Aleman during the contest's 25th minute (24:04). Aleman's second goal of the season, a 15-yard kick, came off a pass from Maddy Hardyman.

UW-Oshkosh followed Knight's score with three more shots on goal. However, all of them, kicks by Mackenzie Bennett in the 55th minute, Alexis Brewer in the 59th and Maddie Hill in the 73rd, were all stopped by UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Lexi Pawlowski.

UW-Oshkosh had two opportunities to score in the first half but kicks by Schmitz and Gunderson bounced off the crossbar during the 21st and 39th minute of action.

The Titans finished the match with 22 shots, including four first-half attempts that were blocked by Pawlowski. Schmitz led UW-Oshkosh with six shots while Brewer, Knight and Delaney Karl followed with three apiece.

UW-Stevens Point launched 14 shots while owning six of the game's nine corner kicks. The Pointers were paced by the three shots of both Aleman and Kortnee Hass.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Erin Toomey saved two UW-Stevens Point shots, both in the first half.
