Titans Upset Nationally Ranked Warhawks

Kendra Jepson scored on a penalty kick while Jessica Galason recorded 10 saves as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team held on to defeat defending WIAC champion and nationally ranked UW-Whitewater, 1-0, on Wednesday (Oct. 4) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. 

Jepson, who has tallied all three of her goals this season on penalty kicks, earned Wednesday's free boot after a UW-Whitewater player was called for a foul in the UW-Oshkosh penalty box area during the game's 57th minute (56:21). Jepson drilled her second match-winning score of the season to the top right corner of the goal.

Galason was stupendous protecting the UW-Oshkosh goal. She preserved the Titans' third win against the Warhawks in six meetings by stopping two UW-Whitewater shots in the first half and eight in the second. The shutout was Galason's second and UW-Oshkosh's fifth of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (4-5-2, 1-0-1 WIAC) was held to just four shots by a UW-Whitewater squad that entered the contest ranked 18th in the NCAA Division III by the United Soccer Coaches. Each of the Titans' four shots were taken by a different player, including kicks by Maddie Morris and Toria Koch that were saved by UW-Whitewater goalkeeper Sara Klimisch during the 32nd and 71st minute of play, respectively.

UW-Whitewater (7-2-3, 0-1-1 WIAC) was on the attack for most of the match as it launched 26 shots, including 10 on goal. The Warhawks also earned 12 of the contest's 13 corner kicks.

Anna Boyd owned seven UW-Whitewater shots, including attempts that were blocked by UW-Oshkosh's Galason in the game's 10th, 61st, 78th and 81st minute. The Warhawks also received four shots from both Marie Lesperance and Mackenzie Serbousek and three apiece from Emily Mouille and Karina Rosales.

Klimisch, who brought a 0.76 goals-against average into the match, registered saves on two of the three shots she faced.

UW-Oshkosh hosts the second contest of its three-game homestand on Saturday (Oct. 7) against UW-Platteville. The Titans will celebrate 25 years as an intercollegiate women's soccer program at halftime of their match with the Pioneers.
