Titans' 25th Season Opener Results In Tie

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team began its 25th season with a scoreless overtime decision against Goucher College (Md.) on Friday (Sept. 1) in Towson, Md.

The teams battled through 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime to produce UW-Oshkosh's first scoreless tie since a 2012 contest against UW-River Falls.

Friday's inaugural meeting featured 33 shots, with seven saved by Christina Charikofsky of Goucher College and six by Jessica Galason and three by Madelyn Runyan of UW-Oshkosh. Charikofsky and Galason both recorded a save during overtime.

UW-Oshkosh's seven shots on goal included two by Michaela Schenk. Schenk had shots blocked by the Gophers' Charifkofsky during the 45th and 70th minute of play.

Also, having shots stopped by Charikofsky were the Titans' Emily Burg in the fourth minute, Arnold in the 29th, Jepson in the 75th, Baalke in the 90th and Kleis in the 102nd. Arnold had four of UW-Oshkosh's 19 total shots.

Galason tallied five of her saves in the second period. She halted shots by Syd Benedick in the 54th minute, Bri Hite in the 77th, Rylee McDonnell in the 78th and Isabel Suazo in both the 81st and 83rd. Benedick also had a shot denied by Galason with 69 seconds remaining in the second 10-minute overtime period.

Runyan guarded the UW-Oshkosh goal in the first half and stopped shots by Goucher College's Suazo during both the fifth and 13th minute and another by the Gophers' Hite in the 34th. Suazo owned five of Goucher College's 14 total shots.

The contest involved nine corner kicks, including five by UW-Oshkosh.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Maryland to visit first-time opponent Stevenson University on Saturday (Sept. 2) in Owings Mills.
