Green Knights Edge Titans

UW-Oshkosh suffered a rare women's soccer defeat when it was handed a 1-0 loss by St. Norbert College on Thursday (Sept. 15) in De Pere.

The Titans, who had gone 15-3-2 during their previous 20 matches with the Green Knights, lost to St. Norbert College for the first time since a 2-1 setback during the 2002 season.

UW-Oshkosh (3-3) outshot St. Norbert College (3-1), 7-2, in the first half of Thursday's meeting, but went to intermission in a scoreless tie.

St. Norbert College got the better of the second half by attempting 10 of the period's 14 shots and scoring the game's only goal during the 58th minute (57:26) of play. The Green Knights got the match-winning goal when Monica Stephans headed in a cross from Aimee Conley.

UW-Oshkosh's shot count featured four by Rachel Elliott and two apiece from Taylor Arnold and Robyn Elliott. The Titans had six shots saved by St. Norbert College goalkeeper Maddie Plinska, including four in the first half.

The three shots each from Conley, Stephans and Julia Schumacher led the Green Knights' overall total. St. Norbert College had eight shots stopped by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Jessica Galason, including seven in the second period.

UW-Oshkosh had a 3-0 edge in corner kicks, with only one coming in the second half.

UW-Oshkosh hosts Wartburg College (Iowa), which advanced to the third round of last year's NCAA Division III Championship, on Sunday (Sept. 18) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
