Titans Defeat Spartans For 10th Win Of Season

UW-Oshkosh secured its fifth straight season of 10 or more women's soccer victories with a 3-1 decision over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Tuesday (Oct. 20) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

All four players who scored in the contest recorded their first goal of the season, including Megan Paulick who put UW-Oshkosh (10-3-1) in front 1-0 during the 10th minute (9:08) of action. Paulick scored from six yards after rebounding her own shot that bounced off the crossbar.

Following the goal, the University of Dubuque (10-5-1) had four shots saved and UW-Oshkosh one before the Titans' doubled their advantage on a 12-yard kick by Rachel Elliott in the 41st minute (40:43).

UW-Oshkosh took a 2-0 lead to intermission despite trailing in shots, 7-6.

UW-Oshkosh opened the second half with three shots in the first six minutes of play. The teams combined for eight more shots, including five by the University of Dubuque, before the Spartans' Ryann Abeyta followed a pass from Lauren Cangelosi with a 10-yard score in the 85th minute (84:38).

Three minutes later, the Titans restored their two-goal advantage with Taylor Arnold's eight-yard kick. Her goal in the 88th minute (87:27) came followed a cross from Elliott. Arnold's shot was the last of the contest.

Each team attempted 14 shots. Paulick and Christina Mauthe led the Titans with three shots apiece, while Katie Lynn paced the Spartans with six, including three shots on goal.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi went the distance and saved five shots.

Paige Dykstra played the first half in goal for the Spartans and recorded two saves. Megan Moll replaced Dykstra in the second half and stopped one of the two shots she faced.

UW-Oshkosh resumes its WIAC schedule against UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 24) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
