Nicole Mullen scored both University of Chicago goals as the Maroons defeated UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, in a women's soccer match held Tuesday (Sept. 15) in Chicago, Ill.

Both teams appeared in last year's NCAA Division III Championship, with University of Chicago advancing to the third round. UW-Oshkosh was eliminated from the tournament in the opening round.

Mullen gave the Maroons a 1-0 lead when she headed the ball into the net from a free kick taken by Mia Calamari during the 15th minute (14:29) of play.

The University of Chicago (3-2) took a 1-0 lead to intermission as it outshot UW-Oshkosh, 11-2, in the opening period.

Mullen extended her team's advantage in the 60th minute (59:39) when she blasted a shot from the top of the penalty area into the goal. Her score followed a pass from Calamari.

UW-Oshkosh (2-2) sliced its deficit in half when Alexis Brewer recorded her first collegiate goal off a deflected ball with 1:07 (88:53) remaining. Christina Mauthe and Rylee Engelland were credited with assists on the score.

The University of Chicago, which has won all four of its meetings with UW-Oshkosh, posted advantages of 25-7 in shots, 10-5 in shots on goal and 11-3 in corner kicks.

Alek Kleis and Megan Paulick led UW-Oshkosh with two shots apiece. Mullen, Jenna McKinney and Kaitlin Price paced the Maroons with four shots each.

Goalkeeper Piper Mik saved four shots to preserve the win for the University of Chicago. Nina Muzi guarded the UW-Oshkosh goal and stopped seven shots. The Titans also tallied a team save.

UW-Oshkosh returns to J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Saturday (Sept. 19) to play UW-Platteville in its first conference match of the season.
