Titans Survive A Defensive Season Opener

Amanda Baalke scored on the second shot of the contest to give the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team a season-opening 1-0 victory over the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Friday (Aug. 29) in Stevens Point.

Robyn Elliott started UW-Oshkosh's game-winning score by sending the ball up the left sideline. Baalke then took the ball and did the rest, finishing a shot inside the far post during the 10th minute (9:33) of play.

The University of St. Thomas (0-1) had a pair of breakaway opportunities later in the first half, but UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi stopped both attempts. Muzi saved three shots in all to record her third career shutout.

Second-half action went scoreless, as UW-Oshkosh managed just two shots and the University of St. Thomas one.

UW-Oshkosh concluded the match with six shots, including three by Baalke and two by Christina Mauthe. The University of St. Thomas attempted five shots, with two belonging to Paige Wilberding.

University of St. Thomas goalkeeper Tarynn Theiling tallied her lone save in the first half.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Stevens Point to play Concordia-Moorhead College (Minn.) on Saturday (Aug. 30).
