Titans' Late-Season Surge Continues

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team won for the fifth time in six matches with its 3-0 victory over St. Norbert College on Wednesday (Oct. 27) in De Pere.

UW-Oshkosh (8-7-1) took a 2-0 lead to intermission on goals by Becca Blue (So. • Kimberly) and Jenna LaFontaine (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the 13th (12:43) and 40th (40:00) minute of play, respectively. Jessica Erny (Jr. • Wauwatosa) assisted on Blue's team-leading eighth goal of the season, while Carmen Fiordellisi (Jr. • Howard) assisted on LaFontaine's first goal of the year.

The Titans sealed their third straight victory on Nicole Strieker's (So. • Janesville) unassisted goal in the 67th minute (66:45) of action. It was the second goal of the season for Strieker.

UW-Oshkosh attempted eight shots in the wind-swept match and St. Norbert College (8-9-1) seven. The Titans were led by the two shots of Caitlin Casey (Sr. • Waukesha) and the Green Knights by the two shots each of Olivia Roff and Kellan Zimmer. UW-Oshkosh owned a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Jr. • Waukesha) saved two shots to secure her third shutout of the season and the Titans fifth.

St. Norbert College, which suffered its eighth straight loss to UW-Oshkosh, had goalkeeper Cara Tazioli count one save. The Green Knights also had a defender record a save.

UW-Oshkosh plays its final home match of the season on Saturday (Oct. 30) against UW-River Falls (10-7-1/3-4-1 WIAC). A win by UW-Oshkosh and a loss or tie by UW-La Crosse (8-6-2/2-3-2 WIAC) at UW-Whitewater (9-6/6-1 WIAC) on Saturday would clinch a spot for the Titans in the six-team WIAC Tournament.
