Warhawks Rally To Defeat Titans In WIAC Opener

Christina Tooren scored a pair of second-half goals to rally the UW-Whitewater women's soccer team past UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Sept. 15) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater (2-4/1-0 WIAC) trailed 1-0 until Tooren tied the score on an assisted goal by Kristy Talbert in the 67th minute (66:53) of play. Tooren then made the Warhawks a winner in their WIAC opener by scoring off a pass from Jenna Samp in the 83rd minute (82:26). The goals were Tooren's third and fourth of the season.
UW-Oshkosh (3-3/0-1 WIAC), which was also playing its inaugural WIAC contest, took a 1-0 lead on Becca Blue's (So. • Kimberly) breakaway goal in the 21st minute (20:39) of action. Blue's team-leading fifth goal of the season was assisted by Jennifer Nesbitt (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay).

UW-Oshkosh attempted eight shots and four corner kicks. The Titans were led by the two shots of both Jessica Erny (Jr. • Wauwatosa) and Nikki Mohr (So. • Crystal Lake, Ill.).

UW-Whitewater launched 15 shots, including 10 in the second half, and six corner kicks. The Warhawks were paced by the six shots of Tooren and the two of both Jessica Allemang and Natalie Johnson.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Jr. • Waukesha) saved three shots in the contest and UW-Whitewater goalkeeper Sam Neely four. Walder made all three of her saves in the first half, while Neely made three of her four saves in the second.

UW-Oshkosh continues its WIAC agenda with a road match at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Sept. 18).
