Titans Compete At Don Parker Open

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.- Five wrestlers competed at the unscored UW-Eau Claire Don Parker Open on Saturday (Feb. 3) for the UW-Oshkosh men's wrestling team.

In the 184-pound bracket, Michael Loger (So. • Andover, Minn.) received a bye in the first round before dropping the next match to Ben Gilbertson of St. John's University (Minn.) by 9-5 decision. In the consolation bracket, he was defeated in the first round by a 3-1 decision to Hank Gierke of UW-Eau Claire. Also in the 184-pound competition, Tyler Blanchard (So. • Coleman) received a first round bye and was pinned by Sam Schwabe of UW-La Crosse in the second round. He finished the competition after being pinned by Marty Koenig of UW-Platteville.

Matt Hanke (Sr. • Theresa) was taken down in the first round of the 197-pound bracket by Nathan Fury, who was wrestling unattached. In the consolation bracket, Hanke won the first round due to medical forfeit before being overcome by Garrett Kilgas of Luther College (Iowa) in a 13-6 decision.

In the 285-pound bracket, Brodie Driessen (Fr. • West Allis) was pinned by Sam Melton (unattached) in the first round before receiving a bye in the first two rounds of the consolation bracket. He defeated Aaron Finn (unattached) by a 4-0 decision and was pinned by Cody Kwak of St. John's. Guyon Cyprian Jr. (Sr. • Chicago, Ill.) pinned Hunter Gorecki of Augsburg University (Minn.) in 5:20 before losing by fall to Dylan Bravo Packer (unattached). He moved on to pin William Russell of Rochester Community College (Minn.) in 4:04 before losing to UW-Platteville's Dylan Warren due to medical forfeit. 

The Titans will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 17) for the WIAC Championship hosted by UW-Platteville. The meet is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start time.
